Are global warming and climate change the same thing?

Global warming is used to describe increase in the Earth's land and sea-surface temperature, and includes predictions of future rises in temperature. Climate change involves an increase or decrease in temperature and precipitation, and includes changes to other weather patterns as well. Climate change refers to both regional and global variations.

Comments

I take the term Global Warming to mean the increase in the average temperature across the whole globe whereas Climate Change refers to the change in a particular location or geographic area. I believe that there is a general public misunderstanding that Global Warming means everywhere will get warmer when in practice some areas will get warmer and others colder with the overall average showing a warming trend.
