winter 2018

Dear theWeather Club e-newsletter readers,

Welcome to Issue 24 of theWeather Club e-newsletter.

2018 has been an eventful year, with extreme weather events from snow storms and flooding to heatwaves and drought across the globe. Our Weather Review 2018 looks back at some of the events that have had an impact in the UK and Europe. We will also be looking back at weather events from around the world. Caroline explores a Travellers Guide to the Christmas markets in Germany, for those of you who are lucky enough to visit them and the cold weather theme continues with our guest articles from Anita Vollmer and Dr. Michelle McCrystall.

Climate change is a topic which has been at the forefront of global media in 2018. Our winter newsletter will explore the recent IPCC 1.5-degree report, including audio from the Royal Meteorological Society’s event titled, ‘How to avoid the worst effects of Climate Change’, with an opportunity to hear from some of the authors of the report. We will explore a report from the Met Office which outlines how extreme weather events reveal a changing climate.

On behalf of everyone at theWeather Club, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and look forward to exploring what the weather will bring us in 2019!
