winter 2019

Dear theWeather Club members,

Welcome to Issue 28 of theWeather Club e-newsletter.

Our latest issue explores the possible causes of the recent catastrophic bushfires in Australia and extensive flooding in East Africa. Can our oceans help explain these two extreme events? In research news we look at the current airborne research into Australian bushfires with Dr Andrew McGrath from Airborne Research Australia. Two science lessons explain sting jets and an opportunity to learn more about weather and climate. Weather watch covers weather events from across the globe over the last three months and we have a guest blog from Dr Lindsay Bennett, an Instrument Scientist from the National Centre for Atmospheric Science. Finally, in our events section, we take a look at the RMetS upcoming event 'Gardening for wildlife in a changing climate' and review COP25 and Weather Live 2019.

As always, we welcome your feedback. If there are any topics you would like us to discuss in future newsletters please contact us at info@theweatherclub.org.uk

I hope you enjoy reading!
