Just as I was looking forward to arriving early in Oxford so that I could have a leisurely bath and evening with my feet up – poor Daphne decides enough is enough. Yes - Daphne the VW campervan is sick. A broken accelerator cable on the M4 and we weren't going anyway. Daphne was delighted, however, when two (yes TWO) kind AA men decided to stop and help a damsel in distress. They'd seen Daphne on the TV yesterday and decided they couldn't leave her stranded on the hard shoulder of the M4. We took a picture of Daphne and her knights in shining armour so that this moment could be remembered forever. (see picture). They kindly helped Daphne into the nearest service station were we waited over two hours for another AA – who had the right parts – came along to fix her.
Whilst stood on the hard shoulder wondering if poor Daphne would ever make it through our tour of Britain – this is day 2 remember – I suddenly thought what a great blog this would make. My mind was soon distracted when the opposite side of the M4 came to standstill right in front of us as two police vehicles stopped the flow of traffic. One of the officers emerged from his car holding a long stick with a hoop on the end and proceeded to look for what I can only think was an loose animal on the road. What a day to remember.
